Inspiration
Gratitude journaling can be powerful, but staying consistent is often the hardest part. That inspired OraBloom. We wanted to make reflection feel warm, personal, and rewarding.
Instead of just writing entries, users nurture a virtual world through their daily gratitude and reflection. As the habit grows, Ora's World grows with it.
What it does
OraBloom helps users:
- Journal daily while tracking their mood
- Add photos and voice notes to capture meaningful moments
- Revisit, reflect on, and edit past entries
- Protect their private journal with Face ID
- Complete Daily Blooms to earn Star Points
- Use rewards to grow and personalize Ora's World
- Build journaling streaks and stay consistent
- Discover mood trends and personal insights over time
How we built it
Our stack includes:
- Swift & SwiftUI — Native iOS development
- SwiftData — Journals, moods, progress, and app data
- LocalAuthentication — Face ID protection
- AVFoundation — Voice notes
- Swift Charts — Mood trends and insights
- UserNotifications — Daily reminders
- RevenueCat SDK — Subscriptions and premium access
- Firebase Analytics & Crashlytics — Analytics and app stability
Challenges we ran into
- Making journaling rewarding without over-gamifying mindfulness
- Connecting journaling, Daily Blooms, Star Points, and Ora's World naturally
- Turning mood data into simple, meaningful insights
- Supporting text, photos, and voice notes in one journaling experience
- Keeping deeply personal journal content private and secure
- Creating a garden progression system that feels rewarding over time
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Turned gratitude journaling into an interactive experience
- Built Ora's World, a virtual garden that grows alongside the user's journey
- Combined journaling, mood tracking, photos, and voice notes
- Created Daily Blooms to encourage small daily acts of reflection
- Added mood trends, streaks, and insights without making the experience feel clinical
- Added Face ID protection for a more private journaling experience
What we learned
- Habit-building works better when progress feels meaningful
- Gamification can support mindfulness when it reinforces the core habit
- Reflection does not always need words. A photo, mood, or voice note can capture just as much
- Personal insights work best when they are simple and easy to understand
- Privacy is essential when building around thoughts, emotions, and personal memories
What's next for OraBloom
- More plants, decorations, and environments for Ora's World
- New Daily Blooms and gratitude challenges
- Deeper mood and journaling insights
- More journal and garden personalization
- Seasonal garden experiences and rewards
- New ways to rediscover meaningful memories
Our vision is simple:
