After my dad suddenly passed away I was really struggling with life, so I started a gratitude journal. Within two months of daily journaling my life changed so drastically, I decided to create the Gratitude Journal app. Working on my app from 5am – 7am before going into the day job, it launched in 2008 and instantly shot up the iTunes chart.
Over the years, complete strangers have told me how the Gratitude app has changed their lives; a mother grieving the loss of her son, a woman battling cancer, a teen faced with bullying. But also people at the top of their game like Roz Savage who used it while rowing across the Atlantic. Now my dream is to get everyone on the planet on a daily gratitude habit.
I recently redesigned the app from scratch with the sole intention of making gratitude a daily habit. People are rewarded for keeping their journal and the longer they keep it, the more features they unlock, such as the "Slideshow view" which displays after their third entry with a photo. The slideshow displays at the top of their entries to remind them how amazing their life already is in this moment.
Future plans include creating gratitude groups. I discovered that a many of the people using Gratitude Journal do it as a group - a family, support group, friends. Creating private groups will let people share entries to a selected individuals privately.
Other future plans is to allow users to order a beautiful printed version of their journal. This hard bonded version will be a special heirloom for generations, teaching our children the power of gratitude.
Most importantly, as my thanks to you and in memory of my wonderful dad, I donate 10% of my profits to charity. The greatest lesson I learned through my struggles was to give thanks and give back. Do these two things daily and the world works in your favor.
