Inspiration

( brooklyn speaking) gardening has always been associated with peace and harvest, things that we often crave in modern, tech-surrounded life. we thought to implement this idea of the garden being a place of peace and turn it into a web enviroment for users to feel peace and gratitude, and give them an awward for doing so !!

What it does

this is a very simple web application that allows users to write down what they're grateful, save it for later reference, and watch a flower grow as they increase their level of gratitude !! we also included a helpful tutorial to help guide those who aren't used to how this type of website would use, but we kept it as straightforward and user friendsly as possible !!

How we built it

we used a combination of javascript, html, and css. in order to collaborate, we used a live share extension on vs code. over hours of virtual calls, late nights, and scrapped ideas, we came up with our now finished gratitude garden !!

Challenges we ran into

we had many ideas for this website, but unfortunately, we had to learn how to scrap ideas while keeping the same charm and quirks of our website. another challenge was our busy schedules and the technical difficulties of working long-distance.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

overall, the aesthetics and functionality are what we put the majority of our sweat and tears into, so the end result is something we're quite proud of !!

What we learned

we learned new ways to integrate html and js together. rose is specialized in html and css, while brooklyn is specialized in js. learning a bit of each other's code and process was extremely fun and insightful. we also grew in our patience and our roles as programmers, utilizing outside resources ( shout out stack overflow and w3 school ) to teach ourselves components we previously didn't know how to use, such as adding background must of highlighting images !!

What's next for Gratitude Garden!

hopefully, we'll expand on this project and implement our ideas further. we plan to incorperate bugs as benchmarkers for how many gratitude entries we've had, bug fixes, a more interactive way to fill out the garden, and many other interactive and engaging points to our website !! we hope you enjoy it :)
