##Challenges I am going for the Supabase challenge as I used it for all my recipe data as well as authentication. I also am going for the Elevenlabs conversational agent challenge as I was able to integrate this for cooking questions.
How we built it
I built my app primarily using bolt.new but also Supabase, Apple Developer, ElevenLabs.io, Cursor to deploy to TestFlight, EAS (Expo Application Services), as well as descript, canva, and pexels for video and images. I am going for the Supabase challenge as I used it for all my recipe data as well as authentication. I also am going for the Elevenlabs conversational agent challenge as I was able to integrate this for cooking questions.
What it does
The purpose of the app is to help streamline the cooking process from start to finish and help the user learn and build on this extremely valuable life skill of cooking. To do this it integrates key features of the cooking process including Meal Planning, Grocery List generation, and cooking lessons both in a separate tab and also built into the recipes with clear instructions, video clips and an AI agent to assist with any questions that might come up. So let me give you a close up view and walk you through the features.
Inspiration
My vision and core belief is that healthier people make a healthier world and most of us want to be healthier but there are huge time constraints as well as knowledge and skill constraints, so my app was designed to save time when it comes to the 'pre-cooking steps', but then really teach people how to cook healthy and delicious food - this is the ultimate goal. I do think this can be quite impactful because eating out is extremely expensive and especially fast food and frozen food is not good for you. The art of cooking has been lost for a few generations now in the U.S. and our health is suffering for it. Food can be both delicious and healthy, we just need to know what we're doing. The time it takes to plan, shop, prep, then cook is a lot and then for the dish not to turn out good - well people give up. I think there is a trend for healthier living, but we're still busy, so using technology to our advantage in this way is going to become super important.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
What we learned
I think it’s important to mention that I have zero technical experience, I’ve never built an app before, and a month ago I knew even the most basic code or how to open to open a terminal. So I was really starting from ground zero and fully reliant on bolt.new to advice me on what to do, how to trouble shoot, how to build and integrate my database. I give a demo in the linked video.
Challenges we ran into
I ran out of time to finish editing my submission video!!
What's next for Grateful Food Life App
To build initial interest as well as content, I plan on build out as much as I can then reach out to Food Bloggers to offer them a nice affiliate commission as well as a nice discount to their customers on the "Founding Membership" if they agree to let me use some of their recipes & images.
