Inspiration
The blandness of traditional task managers! Also, metaphysical stuff: Think organisms, AI-driven movements and interactions, biosystems merged with software task management, attempting to blend data structures as organic lifeforms. GlyphOS Task Manager is organic, gamified task management software.
What it does
Uses organic qualities of symbolic language communication ('glyphs') to display and organize task management deadlines and structure.
How I built it
100% Bolt.new.
Challenges we ran into
TL;DR This was my first real coding project. I noticed that Bolt.new was pretty easy to work with...really easy to get things going. I did run into a type of upper memory limit (according to what the prompt told me!) and so this build will likely need a future re-build of sorts (which is in the works). The main challenge for me is not really knowing how to code!
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
The aforementioned glyph task flier - bottom crawling snail fragment collection system, mixed with a gamified task manager, allowing the user to 'shoot' at various tasks in spaceship mode. Also, in night mode, the little snail glyphs on the bottom (normally diamonds), turn into little business people. Coolest feature: if the user drags a task from one of the red/yellow/green columns into the grey column ('Archives'), the corresponding glyph task flyer will start to slowly descend into 'The Hill' section (the lower right part of the app), which indicates a state of rest for the task. Conversely, if the user removes the task from the Archives section back to one of the three colored glyph columns, then the corresponding connected glyph flyer unit will 'pop' back out of The Hill Archives section and begin to fly back around on the playing field. These tasks then become the 'fighter' enemy glyphs that the player can fight against in Spaceship Mode. Also, in Settings, there is 'The Hill Flight Control' which lists XY and velocity data of the flyer glyphs. Is this necessary? No, but it's damn cool. :-) And fun is important for engagement - no boring apps here!
What I've learned
LLM AI prompting is powerful, but it takes patience and persistence. It is easy to go crazy while attempting to prompt yourself into infinity. Ethical prompting requires breaks, going for walks, observing nature, and figuring out where computers and humanity should meet. I hope to work with other people on projects from this moving forward, as I enjoy AI prompting a lot!
What's next for GlyphOS: Task Manager
Glyph Mode: This mode would clear the glyph columns and allow a box selection or single click selection of the various flyer glyphs, as well as simple mouseover events to show task card previews. The Glyph Mode would integrate tightly with The Hill Flight Control (likely becoming a transparent overlay for future version) which would allow for grouping of flyer glyphs, based on things like alphabetic order, glyph constructor (task author), glyph producer (task assignee), and so forth. This mode would also (hopefully) enable more advanced video effects like the merging of same color glyphs into larger 'mega' flyer glyphs (leading to more boss-like effects of flyer glyphs in the spaceship mode). Professional Integration: A push-pull system ensuring that the team integration of multiple seats allows for a persistent task interface. This would include a 'playing map' in the in the upper right corner of the interface, which would produce further 'glyph task matrix' areas on the left and right side of the default task glyph fighter area (This would allow other team members to have their own 'area' which would eventually include accomplishments...) Accomplishments: As players shoot down more fighter glyphs and as their collector snails earn more ammo fragments, the task manager environment 'evolves' a bit so that way others can see the structure of a more advanced task manager user (perhaps extra decorative items are awarded based on completed task achievements - leading to environmental adornments and/or additional player ship features). Email Integration: Automatic pulling of emails (using spam filtering and AI-learning) to create auto tasks. This would help professional team members to have email tasks auto-populate on the corresponding 'receiving' glyph column and then eventually act as a type of email client (of sorts). This would then enable a 'push' email event to also be programmed to send an email to preassigned 'assignor' of the task, to allow for automatic notification that the task has been completed ('completed' and/or 'archived').
