Inspiration I was inspired by a relatively new genre on Roblox called Incremental Games—this is the first simulator sub‑genre that has hooked me in over the past year. I've been really wanting to create one, so this competition was an excellent opportunity to finally make it happen!
What It Does Think of it as a simulator but with a lower‑effort task. The task I chose was collecting resources in a grid—you simply run around and touch the grass to collect, sell, and upgrade. You can unlock five unique maps, each with its own theme and soundtrack! The game has really nice progression and a strong core loop—it should be easy to drop in and play without a tutorial.
How We Built It Being real—without the help of other creators and the BigBox team, there is a low chance I would have made something this cool, this fast! I can take very little credit outside of the overall design of the game, loops, etc. We spent under a month absolutely GRINDING this game—I hired a creator to make the grass system while I built the rest with the help of BigBox in exchange for a metric ton of feedback on the editor.
Challenges We Ran Into The editor. Learning TypeScript from zero experience. Combine these two and I was at a significant disadvantage. I've been greatly humbled by this platform—I may be excellent on other platforms, but this reminded me of the early days of my career! I appreciate this experience. But yeah, the editor is painful—very painful: bugs, slowness, limitations, missing features. I do see the potential though—some things absolutely wow me! Accomplishments That We're Proud Of Going from first laying eyes on this editor to creating an entire functional game in under a month was pretty awesome! I am so proud that we have a product at all—we didn't have one three days ago; we are just now tying it all together. It's pretty solid now, though—some bugs, but we will update ASAP. It's genuinely amazing what you can do when the right people get involved.
What We Learned TypeScript! That's so cool—I almost know TypeScript and essentially JavaScript now—super happy about that. I learned that when AI is embraced in an editor, you can do really cool stuff fast. I'm excited for this AI‑powered future. I also learned that the Meta team is super motivated—I want to stick around and make more games! I see a bright future for this platform.
What's Next for Grass Cutting Simulator I've gotten really good at making deep gameplay loops on Roblox, and my team will bring those over here and hire a couple of people to go full‑time if the platform seems promising from an economic standpoint. I also want to keep giving BigBox feedback—I feel like I am really making an impact. So yeah—better gameplay, more refinement, pushing the platform to its limits! I really wanted to add more SFX, particles, etc., and make the game super immersive. I'll do this in the next update; I just ran out of time. We want to bring the retention and monetization magic we've designed on other platforms to this game and others! Definitely doable with the given tools.
Thank you for this opportunity!!
