Inspiration
As a final-year engineering student and research assistant in Nigeria, I have spent countless hours searching for grants across dozens of websites, IEEE, World Bank, UNDP, bilateral donors, only to find that most opportunities are buried in dense portals, scattered across the internet, or described in jargon that makes it hard to know if you even qualify. After finally securing a grant, I then faced the equally painful task of writing proposals from scratch with no template, no guidance, and no time.
I built GrantPath because this problem is not unique to me. Researchers, students, NGOs, and startups across the world, especially in underrepresented regions, lose billions in potential funding every year simply because they cannot find or effectively apply for grants that exist for them.
What it does
GrantPath is an AI-powered grant discovery and proposal building platform. Users simply describe their project in plain language, and GrantPath:
- Finds matching grants — Returns curated funding opportunities with eligibility criteria, deadlines, and direct links
- Generates proposal outlines — Auto-scaffolds a full proposal structure tailored to the selected grant: Problem Statement, Objectives, Methodology, Expected Outcomes, Budget Justification, and Team Qualifications
- Tracks applications — A visual dashboard keeps all active applications organized with status and deadline countdowns
How I built it
GrantPath was built entirely using MeDo, Baidu's AI-powered no-code platform. I described the app's architecture, user flows, and features conversationally, and MeDo generated the full-stack application, frontend, backend logic, and deployment, in a single session. I iterated through multi-turn conversations to refine the grant matching logic, proposal generation templates, and the dashboard UI. MeDo's one-click deployment made going from idea to live app seamless.
Challenges I ran into
The biggest challenge was designing the grant matching logic to be specific enough to return relevant results while remaining flexible enough to handle diverse project descriptions. I also had to ensure the app was fully accessible without a login wall so judges and users could immediately experience the core value without friction.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Building a fully functional, deployed application in under 14 hours using only natural language, no traditional coding. The proposal generator produces structured, grant-specific outlines that would have saved me weeks of work when I was applying for funding myself.
What I learned
MeDo dramatically lowers the barrier to building production-ready tools. The platform's ability to understand context across multi-turn conversations made it possible to build complex features, like dynamic proposal templates, without writing a single line of code.
What's next for GrantPath
Integrating a live grants database with real-time updates, adding AI-powered eligibility screening, and expanding proposal templates to cover sector-specific requirements across health, agriculture, education, and technology.
