About the Project
Hand tremors become very common over a period of time as our age increases. People suffering from Parkinson's Disease and neurological disorders suffer from this issue. Keeping the goal of finding a solution to aid them, we were able to come up with a simple and affordable device.
Working Principle
This Grandpa-Spoon uses a gyro sensor to detect the angle caused due to the hand tremors and corrects the spoon to stay level using a servo motor. The correction is determined using our code which is based on the input of the gyro sensor. For these, processes are done by an Arduino Uno microcontroller.
Components Used in the Project
Microcontroller: Processes all data from the sensor. Servo Motor: Type of motor which creates a high torque. IMU Sensor: Specific type of sensor that measures angular rate, force.
Target Audience
Parkinson's Patients: People usually above the age of 60 years affected from Parkinson’s disease.
Making Our Grandpa Spoon Affordable
Arduino MCU: Controller board to process data. IMU Sensors: Sensors to measure angle. Li-ion Battery: Lithium-ion batteries with a charging module. Casing: Casing of the spoon with plastic.
