Inspiration

Loneliness and social isolation among senior citizens are growing challenges, while younger generations often lack opportunities to connect with and learn from their elders. We envisioned GrandFriends as a platform that bridges this gap by fostering meaningful intergenerational relationships, encouraging companionship, knowledge sharing, and community engagement, all supported by responsible AI.

What it does

GrandFriends connects seniors, youth, caregivers, and families through a safe and engaging platform. It enables users to:

Create personalized profiles and complete guided onboarding. Discover and join activities, events, and live sessions. Match with people based on interests and availability. Access an AI companion (Saathi AI) for recommendations and guidance. Explore government benefits and support resources. Schedule meetups and manage reminders. Earn rewards and track community impact. We built GrandFriends using:

React + TypeScript for the frontend. Firebase Authentication for secure login and user management. Firestore Database for storing user profiles and onboarding data. Lovable and V0 for rapid UI development and prototyping. Zapier Agents and automation tools to power intelligent workflows. Saathi AI, an AI assistant designed to provide personalized and multilingual support. Responsive and accessible UI with a warm, senior-friendly design. Challenges we ran into Integrating Firebase authentication and maintaining persistent sessions. Designing an onboarding flow suitable for users of different age groups.
