Inspiration

The inspiration for this project came from a desire to bring awareness to eco-friendly and affordable options, thereby helping the environment and bringing access to information for local, independent farmers. We hope this project can push for the following outcomes:

  1. Bring awareness and increase participation in co-ops; whether selling their personally grown products or starting a co-op themselves.
  2. With buying prices being readily accessible to all, we hope to drive competition in a market to further decrease the price of goods. We hope this would help those in need purchase more of the goods they need.
  3. With more participation in co-ops, lower the amount of carbon emissions. With co-ops buying locally, there is no need for semi-trucks to transport goods far distances.

What it does

This project is meant to be used by two parties: independent and local farmers and food co-ops. On the farmer side, users can view what local food co-ops are looking to buy and for what price. They can then submit a request to sell their foods. On the co-op side, users can post listings for what they need and what they are willing to pay for it.

How we built it

My team and I built it using the React.js.

Challenges we ran into

As it is all of our first hackathon, most of our challenges arose from being beginners. Challenges included: task delegation, coming up with an idea in the first place and tackling new coding problems we haven't faced prior to the hackathon.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud to have competed in our first hackathon! Even though this project still has some work to do, we learned from all of our challenges and are looking to use our new knowledge in the future.

What we learned

We learned that communication is key for translating ideas into tangible results.

What's next for Grow Op

Some team member intend on continuing work on the project to add additional features and make it a full-fledged, usable service.
