Inspiration
We chose to pursue this topic because we believe it is important for the older generation to be able to connect and interact with their loved ones and the general outside world.
What it does
Once the survey is completed, our product uses a carefully adjusted algorithm that matches you to three social media platforms which we think will suit you best.
How I built it
On the front-end, we used HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Bootstrap. For the back-end, we used Python and Flask.
Challenges I ran into
As a team of beginners, learning all the technologies was a constant challenge. We ran into problems with formatting our HTML code and CSS stylesheet. In addition, there are some code compatibilities issues
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
To make our website accessible to a wider audience, we created buttons on the webpage that would read out the text using a text-to-speech web API. This way, our senior friends can choose to listen to the tutorial instead of reading it!
What I learned
Collaboration was an important skill we learned in the process of building our project. Everyone had different skill sets including front-end, back-end, and user-interface design. Leveraging strengths and complementing weaknesses contributed to our productive and friendly team dynamics.
What's next for gram-pal
We would like to implement a chatbox on the side of our website which would allow confused users to contact experts and ask them specific questions
