Inspiration
Location-based AR and local graffiti.
What it does
This filter shows the potential for communities to preserve street art that constantly changes over time. By capturing different iterations of graffiti murals, users can virtually rewind or fast-forward to artwork based on a specific landmark.
How I built it
This proof-of-concept was created using Spark AR Studio and Blender.
Challenges I ran into
Spark does not currently support Location/GPS based markers. I am using a planar tracker to fix the 3D model in place,
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I am proud of the script I manipulated to allow Native UI buttons to update the textures on my model when users tap on the screen to select a specific year, effectively retrieving the artwork for that time period.
What I learned
Location-based features are very important to AR and should be added to Spark AR Studio as other platforms have currently capitalized on this option.
What's next for Graffiti Time Capsule
I want to create an AR version of a self-published journal documenting local graffiti via a cross-browser solution that can handle location GPS data coordinates to trigger AR versions of the murals. Using javascript buttons I'd like users to interactively update the textures of the modeled locations and enjoy present artworks along with others that are no longer available, and possibly works that don't yet exist.
