History: “Art should be something that liberates your soul” - Keith Haring

Haring painted the Crack is Wack mural because his young studio assistant Benny became addicted to crack. After many failed attempts to help him kick his addiction, the artist decided to paint this mural in an abandoned handball court near Harlem River Drive, which he often drove past.

What makes your team special:

The Culture is special because of the fact that we developed teamwork and trust within each other in a matter of hours. With these two traits we made this project happen.

What problem are you solving:

We hope to encourage individuals of different walks of life to visit their nearest art gallery through our search engine that filters galleries by zip code. By visiting their nearest art institution, individuals will walk away with the fundamentals of art history, cultural preservation, and keeping the heart of NYC alive.

Details of core concept:

The tools we used to accomplish this are CSS, Html, and JavaScript. We integrated 2 APIs which are Open Data NYC and Google Maps. We wanted to encapsulate the crazy color of graffiti from NYC as our design.

How does it work:

User goes to the website search bar and inputs their zip-code. The Open Data API will filter through their database, and send it to Google Maps. Google will then update the markers showing up on the map. We have also included one of the results on the top of the page.
