Inspiration

The common app platform is what inspired us to have a website built for applications to graduate school.

What it does

Our application seeks to connect students who are seeking further education after they finish their undergraduate degree. The app is meant for students seeking either a master's degree or a PHD, and it acts as a common application site that generalizes the application process to get into a high-level degree.

How we built it

For our project, we used v0 to build the front-end of the project, which includes the design and layout of the project. Then we used Cursor to tie everything together from the back-end side of the project, while also using graduate schools that were provided through Anthropic.

Challenges we ran into

The main challenges that we faced with during this project were in our limited use of AI. In particular, the credit system that most free version of Ai use greatly limited what we could make AI do for our project. With that being said, we had to accommodate for this by obtaining a premium version of v0 and Cursor in order to tailor both ends of our project into a fully working website.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of overcoming the difficulties of incorporating cursor, v0, and Claude in order to list applications for different grad school all into one website.

What we learned

There were 2 big takeaways that we left with following the project. The first had to do with the concept itself, so nothing relating to software. We developed a prototype for a front-end for our original idea, and even started planning out our backend. However, upon further thought, we changed the entire idea into a whole different concept that served an ideal purpose to help students to apply for graduate school.

What's next for GradPenguin

We are planning to include an additional feature that allows grad students and professors to connect with each other in an open platform.
