Recently, we have found in our school that for most underperforming students it's not the method of studying that causes them to perform badly, however the motivation, so decided to make a website aiming to target motivation to help these groups of people

What it does

Graderush is a platform that allows students to join leaderboards of classes they enrolled in on Google Classroom. The leaderboard ranks students based on a calculation of classwork score and upload speed to promote friendly competition and to motivate students to complete work on time and of good quality. Additionally, it allows you to view whether your classmates have finished the assigned work yet and provides collectable titles you gain by doing well in the ranks.

Why it matters

This matters because we find that there are lots of AI tools and Study Apps, however, we find that the lack of motivation is the bigger problem. By giving them a reason to study, students won’t feel that studying is forced, and more optional, leading to them having a good time studying, which helps to improve grades, test scores, and academic excellence overall.

How we built it

We used Figma to design the UI for each of our web pages, Firebase for the backend to store user data, Google Cloud to use the Google Classroom API for class data, Vercel for deploying the website, and Next JS for routing. We also used Lucide for the icons, and itshover.com for the animations. As we are quite new to app/web development, we used tools like Claude Code or ChatGPT to assist us while coding, such as adding comments to our work to organize it, helping with areas we weren’t familiar with, or helping us solve problems within the UI.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was setting up the backend Firebase API, the Firebase API was hard for us to set up, especially due to our lack of experience in development

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are extremely proud of successfully producing something that we believe could actually be used and not something that we would forget about the moment the hackathon ended

What we learned

In our diverse team, some of us are experienced in coding, but we are still relatively new to coding agents. With our skills, we were able to help each other to produce an end result, while teaching each other our skills, to bring our dream to life.

What's next for Graderush

We will most likely continue this project however we would most likely restart completely. This project was somewhat rushed, leading to bad design. Not only that, we also used next-js for this which unfortunately only runs on websites, and although it can be opened on mobile devices, we felt that Graderush was more suitable for an app. Aside from that, we hope to go multi-platform to make Graderush for everyone so we would most likely restart and use react native instead. Lastly, due to the rush of this original project, we aim to refine the UI, allowing students to access the app better.
