Inspiration
We were inspired by the joys of college. We also knew we wanted to incorporate both 2D and 3D elements, so we decided an arcade machine that runs a 2D game.
What it does
GPA Pursuit simulates an arcade game in the pursuit of a degree. It includes a 2D game that is run in a 3D space, with the player able to control a 2D character using 3D buttons. In the game, the character collects grades, which can hurt or help their GPA, and collect objects that will help them.
How we built it
GPA Pursuit was built using Godot and its language, GDScript. We combined 2D and 3D elements to add 2D elements to a 3D game.
Challenges we ran into
There were challenges with the spawning location of the arcade machine and the collision of its buttons. There was also some challenges relating to the 2D game, such as spawning objects at random locations. We overcame these challenges and were able to accomplish our goals.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of our combination of 2D and 3D elements in the same game. Each of us individually also achieved our personal goals for this project and acquired new skills and knowledge.
What we learned
Starting the project, we each had individual goals relating to our part of the project: creating a 3D model of an arcade machine with working buttons, running a 2D scene in a 3D scene, instantiating objects at randomized spots, and improving spritework skills. We were all able to accomplish and surpass our goals, increasing our knowledge and skill
What's next for Grade Pursuit Adventure (GPA) Arcade Simulator
We hope to make arcade simulators for other joys of college. Group project simulator, Caffeine Dependency Simulator, and finally, Hackathon Simulator.
