Inspiration
Most online calculators on the web today are bloated with invasive popups, mandatory email signups, and heavy tracking scripts that slow down page loads. We built GrabCalc to prove that essential financial and mathematical tools can be blazingly fast, clean, and 100% private.
What it does
GrabCalc is a suite of 57+ lightweight, specialized web calculators across real estate investing (BRRRR, Cap Rate, 1% Rule, NNN Lease, Cash-on-Cash), loan amortization, personal finance, health, and mathematics.
Key capabilities:
- Instant Reactive Math: Calculations update live on every keystroke with zero submit buttons.
- 100% Client-Side Privacy: All math runs locally in the user's browser—no inputs are ever sent to a server or tracked.
- Global Multi-Currency: Dynamic currency formatting across 8 world currencies (USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, AUD, INR, JPY, CHF).
- Bidirectional Solvers: Reverse calculation modes (e.g., solve for max purchase offer based on target yield).
How we built it
Built with a strict zero-dependency philosophy:
- Pure Native Stack: 100% vanilla JavaScript, semantic HTML5, and native CSS.
- Zero Heavy Frameworks: No React, Vue, or bulky CSS libraries—ensuring sub-second load times and tiny byte transfer sizes.
- Edge Deployment: Hosted globally via Cloudflare Pages for instant worldwide CDN caching and sub-100ms TTFB.
Challenges we ran into
Engineering high-precision mathematical models (such as compound interest schedules, 30-year amortization tables, and commercial real estate valuation) strictly in vanilla JavaScript while maintaining sub-millisecond execution and complete input validation fault tolerance.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- 57 production tools built and deployed with 0 external JavaScript libraries.
- Sub-second First Contentful Paint (FCP) and perfect Lighthouse performance scores.
- Complete privacy: zero user data stored, logged, or transmitted.
What we learned
Building without frameworks forces extreme clarity in state management and DOM manipulation. Native modern web APIs have evolved to the point where heavy client libraries are often unnecessary for fast, responsive calculation tools.
What's next for GrabCalc
Expanding the suite to 100+ native financial, commercial real estate, and productivity calculators while maintaining strict zero-dependency and privacy-first standards.
