Inspiration

We were inspired to make something so obviously overused AI, to make light of some of the more egregious usages of AI where it's so obviously not needed.

What it does (Pitch)

There's one technology that we've all been using since essentially the dawn of personal computing, so ubiquitous yet... so old. Don't you think it's time for a refresh? Away with the old and in with the new: we're officially implementing a replacement to HTML called GPTML; all useless HTML code will eventually be superseded by the superior GPTML, where everything will only be in prompts.

Every website, every hyperlink, will be generated on-demand by yours truly. This is obviously far superior as puny HTML has to be pre-made, while an infinite amount of GPTML can be generated from hyperlink-to-hyperlink.

How we built it

Ironically, while made to satirise AI, it also makes heavy use of AI... with essentially the entire application being vibe-coded. We essentially touched a line or two of code at most, with most debugging coming from observing issues and providing feedback. It uses a React + Vite frontend, with an ExpressJS backend.

Challenges we ran into

Despite sounding easy, being forced to vibe code due to time limits is somewhat hellish. Instead of doing one thing at a time, we manage multiple features simultaneously, as we're incentivized to go faster.

Collaboration was also a bit of an issue with vibe coding, as things progressed so fast, making it hard to integrate, and it was easy to get overzealous with handling too many items at once, so we had to learn to slow down and be more focused on only the scope that we assigned to ourselves and nothing else.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm quite happy that the UI turned out quite pretty and/or cute, considering the timeframe that we had. A friend of ours randomly gave some silly ideas, like the streaming of generating code in the background, so features like that were whacked in as they came in.

What we learned

Some new tools were learnt along the way, like OpenCode for agentic coding, which is a surprisingly good platform that provides tools well-suited to the AI agents. We, of course, also learnt the difficulty in collaboration, especially in hectic hackathons like these.
