Inspiration
The inspiration behind Gowelo Coder v1 came from my desire to build my own AI-powered coding assistant rather than only depending on existing AI coding tools. As a Python developer, I wanted to understand how Large Language Models (LLMs) can be connected to real software applications and used to help developers write, understand, debug, and improve code.
I also wanted to create something that could grow into a locally developed AI coding platform under the GOWELO brand, with a focus on making programming assistance more accessible to developers and students.
What it does
Gowelo Coder v1 is an AI-powered coding assistant built with Python and an LLM.
The goal of the system is to help users:
- Generate Python and other programming code from natural-language instructions.
- Explain existing code in simple terms.
- Identify and help fix programming errors.
- Improve and refactor code.
- Answer programming and software-development questions.
- Generate project structures and development ideas.
- Assist beginners while they learn programming.
- Provide an interactive AI-based coding experience.
Gowelo Coder v1 is designed as the foundation for a larger AI development platform rather than just a simple chatbot.
How I built it
I built Gowelo Coder v1 primarily using Python and designed the system around an LLM.
The project is organized so that the AI model, application logic, user interface, and future developer tools can be expanded independently.
The main development concepts include:
- Python for the core application.
- LLM integration for natural-language programming assistance.
- Prompt engineering for coding-related tasks.
- Conversation handling for maintaining context.
- Code generation and explanation.
- Error handling and response processing.
- A modular architecture designed for future features.
My experience with Python, Kivy/KivyMD, web development, databases, APIs, and software development helped me design the project with future expansion in mind.
Challenges I ran into
One of the biggest challenges was understanding how to connect an LLM to a real Python application and make the model behave like a useful coding assistant instead of simply generating random text.
Other challenges included:
- Designing effective prompts for programming tasks.
- Handling incorrect or incomplete AI-generated code.
- Maintaining useful conversation context.
- Designing the application architecture for future expansion.
- Handling API communication and errors.
- Making the assistant useful for both beginners and experienced developers.
- Understanding the limitations of LLM-generated code.
- Building the project while working with limited hardware and resources.
These challenges taught me that building an AI application involves much more than simply connecting an API to a chatbot.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I am proud that I was able to start building my own AI coding assistant from the ground up using Python.
I am especially proud of:
- Creating the Gowelo Coder v1 concept and architecture.
- Integrating an LLM into a Python application.
- Building a foundation that can evolve into a complete AI development environment.
- Combining my programming knowledge with AI technology.
- Creating a project under my own GOWELO technology brand.
- Learning how different components of an AI application work together.
For me, the biggest accomplishment is not only the current version, but creating the foundation for something much bigger.
What I learned
Building Gowelo Coder v1 taught me that developing an LLM-powered application requires knowledge of both traditional software engineering and AI.
I learned more about:
- Large Language Models.
- Prompt engineering.
- AI API integration.
- Python application architecture.
- Context management.
- Code generation.
- Error handling.
- The limitations of AI-generated code.
- Designing software that can evolve over multiple versions.
Most importantly, I learned that an AI assistant should not simply generate answers. It should be designed to help users understand problems, reason about solutions, and improve their own programming skills.
What's next for Gowelo_coder v1 model
Gowelo Coder v1 is only the beginning.
The next versions will focus on turning it into a more complete AI coding environment with features such as:
- Multi-language programming support.
- Better code generation and debugging.
- Project-aware AI assistance.
- File and folder understanding.
- Codebase analysis.
- AI-powered error detection.
- Code refactoring.
- Automatic documentation generation.
- Terminal and development-tool integration.
- Local/offline LLM support where possible.
- Custom coding models and specialized prompts.
- Developer memory and project context.
- A graphical interface for a better developer experience.
- Integration with Git and version-control workflows.
- Automated project generation.
- AI-assisted testing.
The long-term vision is to develop Gowelo Coder into a powerful AI development platform that can help people learn programming, build software, debug projects, and work with code more efficiently.
