Inspiration

In just the first weeks of the term, the Trump Administration has taken down and edited websites about DEI, LGBTQ health, climate change, abortion. Pages that are taken down are the easiest to notice, but subtle edits to pages the public relies on that reflect his agenda are more common and more likely to go unnoticed.

What it does

GovDiff allows you to compare any government URL with what it looked like before Inauguration Day. We also monitor government websites continuously in the background and use an LLM to distinguish notable changes from the routine.

How we built it

It's built with Laravel, React, and Tailwind. Archived copies of pages are sourced from the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine.

Challenges we ran into

We attempted to create a user-friendly visual diff of the two pages, but found it was too challenging to complete in just 24 hours. We resorted to showing a nicely-formatted diff of the HTML, as well as the two pages side-by-side for easy comparison.
