Inspiration

The Australian Government recently released a new AI Technical Standard with 148 compliance requirements. Agencies face pressure to deploy AI responsibly, but there’s no easy way to prove compliance or build public trust. We wanted to solve that gap.

What it does

GovAssure is a compliance and assurance platform for government AI systems.

Generates transparency statements for public accountability.

Tracks AI roles, training, and risk levels.

Enables end-to-end decision logging and auditing.

Issues compliance “badges” agencies can publish in real time.

How we built it

We designed and prototyped GovAssure in Figma, mapping government compliance criteria into clear workflows. We focused on a minimum set of features that are mandatory, demonstrable, and high-impact — role assignment, training logs, audit trails, and data checks.

Challenges we ran into

Translating 148 dense technical requirements into simple, user-friendly features.

Balancing internal agency needs with external public-facing transparency.

Making the prototype visually clear while meeting legal/regulatory accuracy.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Built a working prototype in just 3 days.

Simplified complex government standards into a tool agencies could realistically use.

Designed both internal compliance workflows and public-facing trust badges.

What we learned

Compliance doesn’t have to be overwhelming if broken down into usable steps.

Transparency is as much about design and communication as it is about legal rules.

AI governance tools must serve both bureaucrats and the public simultaneously.

What's next for GovAssure

We want to develop GovAssure into a functional web platform where:

Agencies can upload compliance data directly.

The public can verify AI use in real time.

Integrations with government standards evolve as policies change.
