Inspiration

Betrayal at The Vitherlow Cabin in the Mist draws inspiration from the aesthetics of classic 1970s horror films, particularly the found-footage style of The Blair Witch Project and the supernatural horror elements of The Evil Dead. I chose the classic board game Betrayal at House on the Hill as a framework, adapting it into a Victorian-era version set in a foggy cabin.

Core Concept: Using AI technology to allow viewers to experience a horror game "personally," transforming virtual characters into real faces and creating an unprecedented level of cinematic immersion.

What it does

Character Realism: Replacing AI-generated virtual characters with real human faces creates a cinematic sense of realism. Atmosphere Creation: Utilizing low-key lighting, fog effects, and a 1970s horror film color palette. Narrative Depth: Showcasing the complete story framework in trailer format, hinting at the theme of betrayal. Technology Integration: GEMINI storyboarding + PixVerse animation generation + AI voice-over and music + professional post-production editing. Cross-Platform Compatibility: Perfectly compatible with short video platforms such as YouTube Shorts and TikTok.

How we built it

Phase 1: Concept Design

GEMINI AI analyzes the board game's storyline. Creates the Victorian-era foggy cabin world. Designs supernatural creatures and a terrifying atmosphere.

Phase 2: AI Character Creation

Collects facial data from 8 real players. Uses AI technology to blend real facial features into the horror characters. Ensuring each character has a unique personality.

Phase 3: Visual Generation

PixVerse creates the foggy cabin scene. AI generates supernatural creatures and horror elements. Integrates low-key lighting and dramatic shadow effects.

Phase 4: Audio Design

NICEVOICE AI voice-over system. 1970s horror film style soundtrack. Ambient sound effects: foggy night wind sounds, eerie footsteps, supernatural whispers.

Phase 5: Post-Production Integration

DaVinci Resolve color grading and editing. Color grading: deep blue-gray tones + red accents. 1:43 precise rhythm control.

Challenges we ran into

Realism Balance: Ensure AI-generated facial features don't create the uncanny valley effect while maintaining the character's terrifying atmosphere. Fog Rendering: Create a foggy atmosphere in AI-generated visuals that evokes 1970s horror films. Soundtrack Synchronization: AI-generated music needs to precisely match the fast-paced editing and visual transitions. Character Expressions: Ensure realistic faces maintain dramatic tension across different terrifying scenes. Time Control: Establish a complete story atmosphere and character relationships within 3-5 minutes.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

✅ Technological Breakthrough: Achieves a world-first AI-powered human-like facial modeling + horror movie trailer production ✅ Visual Quality: Reaches professional film-grade lighting and color grading standards ✅ Story Depth: Establishes a complete narrative framework within 3-5 minutes ✅ Emotional Resonance: Successfully creates a terrifying atmosphere and character immersion ✅ Technological Integration: Perfectly combines 4 AI tools with professional post-production ✅ Commercial Value: Scalable into a complete horror film series

What we learned

AI Character Realism: Realistic faces evoke a stronger emotional connection with viewers than purely AI characters.

Horror Aesthetics: 1970s-style low-key lighting and fog effects remain the golden formula for horror films.

Trailer Techniques: Suggestive storytelling is more effective at engaging viewers than direct spoilers.

Color Psychology: Blue-gray tones create a stronger sense of unease than pure black.

Importance of Sound Effects: Precise pairing of AI voice-over with ambient sound effects significantly enhances immersion.

Platform Suitability: Complete stories under 5 minutes are best suited for social media sharing.

What's next for Berry's Odd Lab: Betrayal at The Vitherlow Cabin in the Mist

Short-term goals (3 months): Expand AI character creation technology to other classic horror films. Produce a full-length feature film of Vitherold's Betrayal.

Mid-term goals (6-12 months): Continue releasing sequels. Collaborate with other creators to build an AI horror universe.

Long-term vision (1-3 years): Become a benchmark channel for AI storytelling technology in Taiwan. Become the exclusive studio for adapting board games into film and television worldwide.
