Inspiration
Finding bathrooms in a pinch, for when you just gotta go!
What it does
GottaGo finds bathrooms in New York City in a half mile radius. The user can see all the different bathrooms and their distances. They can then select one and see the route from their selected location. After this they can fill out a survey on their experience.
How we built it
We used JavaScript with React and the ArcGIS maps SDK to integrate ArcGIS maps and Survey 123 to visualize, query, and create data.
Challenges we ran into
The developers had minimum previous experience with the JavaScript SDK for ArcGIS, so there was lots to learn. For instance, we had some issues querying the webmap as well as performing some of the routing. Also, collaborating online through different timezones presented a significant challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the functionality of the app, the overall look, and our teamwork to accomplish this. We hope that our app can eventually help real people find bathrooms!
What we learned
We learned how to work with ArcGIS Maps SDK to interact with data and prepare those web maps to be integrated.
What's next for GottaGo
The next features we want to integrate are to save favorited locations in a folder, create route plans in advance, step-by-step directions, streamline data to local Public Works Departments to address “restroom deserts”, seamlessly add and rate locations within the app, and create a community board. With the Add Location Survey and enough submissions, this app can be useful anywhere.
