Inspiration
All the creators of this project are students in Texas, and as we live in Texas, the ISD's here have the highest number of banned books out of all the states in Texas. We never want a person to not have access to written word as it is very vital for humanity.
What it does
Our project is a website that lists banned books for your library, a link where you could buy the book, or look at reviews, and an information page.
How we built it
We built our website using Replit, Google Maps, and Statista. We divided up the duties of all the parts that we wanted our website to have and did them.
Challenges we ran in to
None of us knew how to code before this challenge, so we all had to teach ourselves HTML and CSS. The hardest part of this was making the Divs actually go where we wanted them. Another hard part was just general formatting issues, as it took a while to put things the way we wanted, and to learn how to make certain things like the header for our website. Another Challenge we ran into, was the fact that we did not have enough time to put down all of the ISD's banned books in all of the places.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud of our Google Map, our header, and the many Divs that we finally got to go where we wanted.
What we learned
How to Code in HTML and CSS, how to make all the things that go into that. How to make a Google Map, and how to make visual stuff in Adobe.
What's next for Got Bans?
We would definitely want to implement JavaScript, and maybe some more user interactive parts for Got Bans, like a search bar to take you where you want to go on the map. Also we would want to make a master list of all the banned books in all the ISD's so we don't have just a few of them. Generally though, just making our website more interactive, and more visually appealing.
