Inspiration
Our inspiration came from one of our teammates extensive knowledge and collection on retro games. He knows that this hobby can be quite hard to get into with how spread out and niche this industry is. So we wanted to create a way for others to easily be able to get into the industry and buy their first retro console.
What it does
Go Retro With Us is a app that lets users look at different emulation consoles and allows them to create a collection either viewing the specs of each one and choosing which on suits them best or using AI to find the perfect emulation console for then.
How we built it
We built the frontend using next.js through vercel and the backend using tailwind. All this was done in javascript.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into issues with Gemini's API key and timing out/reaching Gemini's session limits.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud that Get Retro With Us is able to to curate what console is right for the user down to the finest details with both our manual filters and Gemini AI integration.
What we learned
We learned that due to this industry being niche, there's limited data currently available.
What's next for Go Retro With Us
As the retro gaming industry expands, we hope to expand Get Retro With Us to allow users to search and curate a collection of their favorite retro games alongside their specified consoles as well. Additionally, we would like to expand our price tracking to use live data instead of a set database.
