Inspiration
2D animation workflows are often slow and fragmented. We wanted creators to turn ideas and reference images into playable game assets through simple prompts.
What it does
It generates or imports spritesheets, previews animations, edits metadata, composes layered 2D scenes, and exports reusable game assets.
How we built it
We used React, TypeScript, Vite, Express, and Tailwind CSS. FFmpeg handles GIF/WebM exports, while Codex assists with asset generation, scene setup, and code changes.
Challenges we ran into
The hardest parts were keeping animation frames consistent, preserving transparency, aligning sprites, and connecting visual assets with game triggers and states.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We built a complete workflow from prompt to spritesheet to playable scene, including live previews, scene composition, reusable assets, and animation exports.
What we learned
Good animation requires consistency and structured metadata—not just attractive images. Clear agent instructions also make AI-assisted creation much more reliable.
What's next for gorest-2d-animation-spritesheet-generator
We plan to add better frame alignment, engine exports, more animation templates, collaboration features, and a more autonomous animation agent.
