Gopay

Gopay is an online saving platform that helps low-income earners save and grow their income, to meet financial needs.

Inspiration

I discovered that my college at my office was almost thrown out of his house simply because he couldn't meet up with his yearly rent. All as a result of unprioritizedspending.

This led us to further research we discovered that In Nigeria majority of the low income earners suffer from not being able to meet up with bulky payment such as house rent, school fees, etc.

Not being able to meet up with bulky payment is due to their unpriortized soending, most times leads the house owners to evacuate them(low income earners) from their home and their children being sent out from school.

This has contributed majorly to the over 10.5 million Nigerian children who are currently out of school (BBC) and over 60 million Nigerians who are currently homeless.

We are trying to solve this problem, in order to reduce by 50% the number of Nigerians who go homeless yearly and children who drop out of school, or unable to attend school.

What it does

It helps low-income earners cut out unnecessary spending by prioritizing their spending through daily/weekly/or monthly saving, to help meet up any yearly bulky payment issues such as school fees, house rent etc.

Our solution is unique because users can deposit any amount of money they want to save simply by sending its equivalent airtime recharge card pin.

That is saving through the use of airtime. This will help all low-income earners in rural communities who don't have access to banking facilities, low-income earners who want to save on the go because they get their money on the go through cash payment and can't afford the time wasting and stress of the banks.

How we built it

In Solving this problem we built a web based application with the use of javascript for front end and python (django) for back-end although we are still building,

We were able to discover a major problem in Africa

Design a workable solution (Gopay) to solve this problem

And we where able to work as a team with one of us learning how to use django in two days.

What we learned

We have learnt about the effectiveness and usefulness for team work and collaboration

What's next for Gopay

Completing the building of Gopay and taking out our first mvp to the Nigerian market.
