Inspiration
Inspired by both the city and the University of Waterloo, Goose Chase features the campus's beloved unofficial mascot and merchandise easter eggs! Game design has always been an interest of mine, and combining it with my art skills, I decided to make a cozy mini-game unique to my opportunity to attend Hack the North 2025! (minus the goose attacks, of course)
What it does
The game consists of falling objects (turtles) that either increase your score or take away one of three lives. Collecting a special object reveals a secret cutscene ending!
How we built it
The program was built using Python, Tinkr fonts, and Turtle programming!
Challenges we ran into
Not being too experienced at programming, this project was definitely a learning curve, with every accomplishment, a new task came up and working step by step allowed me to ultimately produce the program I imagined!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This is my first produced Python game and project at a hackathon! Aside from the new Python skills I learned, I really enjoyed the process of creating a cohesive theme for the game!
What we learned
Most of this project was a learning experience for me. From importing and creating custom sprites to utilizing new commands I wasn't familiar with before, such as turtle created for a game I both imagined in my head and am impressed was made a reality in just 36 hours!
What's next for Goose Chase!
This is just the beginning of my journey into the world of game development; this project and experience at HTN have inspired me to continue exploring, learning, and creating new and better things! Perhaps even a sequel someday!
