Google Translate: Roadtrip

Have you ever wanted to chat with a bot that undoubtedly passes the Turing Test. Well this is not the bot for you.

Inspiration

We were all greatly inspired by the classic film Star War The Third Gathers: Backstroke of the West link, a very poorly translated version of Star Wars Episode III

What it does

Our bot receives a text from the user at 484-394-8179, translates it to another language, back to english, feeds that to a chatbot and then sends the resulting generated message back to the users phone.

How we built it

We wrote the code in python which we hosted on an aws server, connecting to the internet through ngrok. Twilio allowed connection to a phone number.

Challenges we ran into

Getting aws to work how we wanted it to and having the python code read text messages.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud that we were able to complete the project as we wanted it to while working off barely any sleep.

What we learned

We learned how to connect python code to an online server.

What's next for Google Translate: Roadtrip

Having the bot learn the poorly translated language and increase the translation chain.
