Goodreads Quotes Scraper

Inspiration

I really wanted to do some NLP on works by the authors I love but there were no good public databases. So I thought I would make my own.

What it does

Exactly what the title states. It scrapes quotes from the goodreads website by author.

How I built it

Mostly fueled by tea.

Challenges we ran into

Puppeteer's selectors were proving difficult to work with so I shifted to using Cheerio which I was more familiar with as it uses jQuery like syntax.

What we learned

Javascript is a pretty cool tool if you want to webscrape.

What's next for Goodreads Quotes Scraper

Add functionality to pass in array of authors.
