Inspiration

Today we are more fragmented and isolated than ever before. GoodNeighbor draws inspiration from the concepts of Mutual Aid and Buy Nothing Groups as well as location targeting based on MarketPlace. We want to foster community and reward volunteers for their services.

What it does

Create a profile and login to your Neighborhood! GeoFenced Communities based on your address. Create and Respond to requests for assistance ( obscured by buffer zones Ala MarketPlace ). See your service hours! build and climb your local leaderboard, become a GoodNeighbor!

How we built it

Build out Design Doc based on MVP requirements as well as stretch goals in Numerically ordered phased plan. Iterate on Design, Security and Feature implementation requirements. Use Agentic AI IDE - Cursor to build out and ship features in plan via phases. Iterate and fix bugs to make UI and UX better

Challenges we ran into

Security Concerns around Doxxing people proved to generate scope creep Integrating Functional API usage and connecting everything to everything else took me a longer time to learn than would be necessary in the future. AI kept repeating load errors based on permanence and generating pins on the map for newly created posts.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Making something that has real world impact if properly fleshed out Creating community and rewarding altruism

What we learned

Learning how to work in a team and use rebasing to avoid merge conflicts. Learning better practice in regard to implementation. Single file commits rather than large multi-file commits with swaths of seemingly unrelated code. Learning the AWS ecosystem and trying out new technologies ( Kiro, PartyRock, Amazon Location Services, AWS Amplify, Cognito for authentication and user handling). Learned how to merge and rebase to avoid merge conflicts.

What's next for GoodNeighbor

Fully implementing Chat features. Adding more visual flair and gamifying leaderboards further. Adding granularity to categorization of posts. adding pictures to profiles. potentially a points shop to add flourishes to your profile , local geofence. Surges / competitions to further incentivize helping out.
