Inspiration
Poverty is a serious issue in today's world. There are many people who don't have food to eat, cloth to wear, and a home to live in. We are fortunate if we can help people who need it. Donating clothes is one such way through which we can help people.
Being a human is to help a human. Giving them the support they need can help them live a better life. We all can contribute towards helping people who truly are in the need. There are many times that we buy new clothes and retire our old clothes. So instead of throwing them away, they can be recycled to help somebody.
What it does
People can sign up on the website and provide details about the clothes they want to donate. We have taken three categories: broken - material recycling, old - clean and donate, new - donate. The clothes would be picked up from their house and then they will be processed further according to the category they fall in. The old and new clothes would be provided to the people who need them.
How we built it
We built the web app using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and BootStrap.
Challenges we ran into
We wanted to build something to help people and therefore tried to assess the problems we can solve. We found that donating clothes is a very effective way to help people but we don't have a proper division of the clothes. Segregation is essential for proper processing. We wanted to automate this and so thought of letting the donor segregate and fill in the details.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We built a functional web app. It can be used for helping people.
What we learned
Thinking about the problems of society is not about discussing them, instead, we need to empathize with the people who are facing problems to truly understand the issues. We all wanted to solve a real issue and we learned a lot while researching for the problem statement itself.
What's next for Goodive
- Scheduling the pick-up for the clothes.
- An option to donate more items other than clothes.
