Inspiration
The Da Ren Brand Pilot Video (GOODBYE TO THE BLIND EYES) was born from a need to tell my story — the real experiences that shaped my music. As a music artist, this project serves as both a spiritual revelation and a personal chronicle, inviting the audience to understand the emotions, struggles, and awakenings that gave life to my songs. It reveals the path that led me here — the heartbreaks, the losses, the rebirths — and how those human moments transformed into art.
At its core, the film merges personal truth with philosophical vision. It draws from mythology, theology, and world culture, reinterpreting themes of Genesis, the fall of man, paradise lost, and the eternal pursuit of love, while grounding them in the realities of modern existence. Set between Toronto and Chongqing, it embodies the tension and harmony of East and West — a cyber-metropolis of neon and incense, where spirituality and urban decay coexist.
Every symbol in the film was intentionally designed, they were all inspired by real moments and photographs, reimagined through AI. Rather than fabricating illusion, AI became the medium that merged memory and myth, turning lived experience into cinematic poetry.
The man lying on the ground represents spiritual defeat and exile — a fallen self haunted by the karmic echoes of love. His flashbacks to lost lovers evoke the divine feminine and the forbidden fruit, love fractured by pride and destiny. The red alien head symbolizes the Jungian shadow self — the repressed, alien side of consciousness that becomes a gateway to self-inquisition and transcendence. The serpent reappears as Lilith, both avenger and balance — not evil, but the embodiment of karma and moral symmetry, transforming heartbreak into revelation. The playboy archetype, once the heartbreaker, now faces his karmic reversal — his downfall becoming his awakening.
As the curtain closes, the world itself is revealed as Māra’s illusion — the cosmic theatre of attachment and awakening. In Buddhist and Hindu thought, Māra is the lord of deception and desire; here, he represents time, ego, and spectacle, showing that love, loss, and enlightenment are all scenes within a divine play.
On a contemporary level, the film reflects the psychological and societal struggles of youth — a young man stepping from university into chaos, caught between ambition and love, spirituality and survival. It critiques modern society’s obsession with spectacle and alienation, while capturing the artist’s search for meaning and authenticity.
Visually, it pays homage to Wong Kar-Wai, Blade Runner, 1990s Hong Kong cinema, and Michael Jackson’s Thriller and Smooth Criminal, blending myth and modernity. Ultimately, Da Ren emerges as both artist and mythmaker, revealing that love — in all its beauty and tragedy — is the divine law beneath all illusion.
How we built it
The Da Ren Brand Pilot Video was created as a hybrid between AI film and real life footages. Working alongside ChatGPT to draft the storyboard and narrative, we scripted the mythic journey before generating each frame. Midjourney provided the cinematic imagery — every prompt refined for tone, lighting, and emotion — while real footage from personal experiences set in Toronto and Chongqing provided nostalgic resemblance to memories of real life experiences.
We used ElevenLabs to create multi-lingual voiceovers, giving each character (Da Ren's Exes) distinct emotional depth and accent — from Mandarin to Vietnamese, Indonesian, Russian, and English — reflecting the video's multi-cultural synthesis. The music and sound were fully produced in Studio One, linking the film to my upcoming single Fly Into The Sun.
The visuals were edited and cut in CapCut, using its filters and effects to capture a TikTok-inspired visual aesthetic.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge was maintaining character and visual consistency across AI-generated scenes, as Midjourney lacked stable continuity for expressions, poses, and camera movement. Balancing surrealism with realism required blending AI imagery with real footage from Toronto and Chongqing, while preserving emotional coherence. Another difficulty was translating the mythic and theological symbolism—such as the red alien head representing the Jungian shadow and gateway to self-inquisition—into visual form without losing clarity.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud that our Da Ren Brand Pilot Video reached over 200,000 views across platforms, proving that experimental storytelling can achieve both artistic and commercial success. Artistically, we’re proud of mastering a unique paradox of form: telling a fragmented, dreamlike narrative through quick AI-generated cuts while maintaining a consistent emotional and mythic arc. In doing so, we turned paradox into harmony — blending East and West, chaos and order — and created a work that connects emotionally while pushing the boundaries of modern visual storytelling.
What we learned
We learned that AI filmmaking operates best through rhythm and suggestion rather than traditional long-form cinematography. Tools like Midjourney excel at producing striking, isolated moments—quick, symbolic flashes that create emotional impact when edited together, rather than continuous scenes. This approach turns AI video into a mirage-like odyssey, guiding the audience through sensations and archetypes instead of linear storytelling.
We also discovered that CapCut’s built-in filters and TikTok pacing complement this format perfectly, allowing cinematic visuals to feel accessible, modern, and emotionally immediate. In essence, we learned that the true potential of AI film lies not in realism, but in mythic impressionism—using fragments of dreams to tell truths about the self.
What's next for GOODBYE TO THE BLIND EYES
What’s next is expansion and refinement. We’re continuing to create more AI-driven videos, including full AI music videos, exploring how far we can push this hybrid form. Rather than forcing AI filmmaking into traditional cinema, we aim to develop a new storytelling language — one that embraces AI’s fragmented nature and aligns with the short-form video culture of today. Each project brings us closer to defining a distinct visual identity where technology, myth, and emotion merge seamlessly.
