Inspiration

Work from home can be a bleak activity with decreased social interaction and connection with those who you would usually interact with the most. Workers everywhere want to celebrate achievements, no matter how small, and receive recognition for their daily wins. During precovid times the recognition was once received on a daily basis as interacting with other employees and students was so much easier. But now, as everything is now online, the ability for us to be aware of this recognition and to share our own achievements has fallen. This can lead to issues such as decreased mood and productivity and overall lower satisfaction with our work. As individuals, we are predisposed to thrive off the recognition of others. Through our research we found that there was no one social platform that supported this facet of in person interactions and we believe that this was an important problem to solve.

What it does

That is why we introduced a new social tool called Good News For Me! Currently, this solution is novel and unique as there is currently no platform to celebrate these little wins. It works by allowing users to anonymously share little wins they found while working or studying from home. By sharing their little win they can read how others are creating their own little wins. Thus, improving happiness levels which would improve productivity and overall WFH satisfaction by creating a positive environment where everyone is a winner

How we built it

We created the web app using firebase and react.js with components from material-ui using html and css.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into quite a few challenges which all started with mapping a button and compiling errors. However our team was able to surmount these challenges through determination and innovation especially since all of us started coding javascript and html this year.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

One of our proudest accomplishments was creating a website with a positive atmosphere that will entice users to post their little wins over the course of the day. A large part of this can be attributed to our logo which is both welcoming and cute.

What we learned

We learned so much more about javascript, html, firebase and other development techniques

What's next for Good News For Me

We will be looking to expand our feed with the use of hashtags for people who are interested in certain types of achievements such as #study or #fitness.
