InspirationThe story draws inspiration from Yuval Noah Harari’s 2011 masterpiece Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind. In that book, he explores the future of humanity and the impact of AI on human society. The concept of the “useless class” was inspired by his work. With this project, I hope to spark reflection on the future while maintaining its entertainment value.
The visual style of The Useless Ones is influenced by classic Japanese anime of the 1990s and Hollywood films, aiming to recreate the feel of the golden age of 1980s science fiction cinema—for example, RoboCop and Cowboy Bebop.
This film is based on a short comic I created many years ago. In the era of AI, I believe new tools will become essential means of artistic expression.
