We wanted to build a platform that helps keep food waste minimal and allows everyone to have access to food. We learned about apps like “TooGoodToGo” that manages food waste by selling items for cheaper; however, it didn’t address the issue of food access for people that can’t necessarily afford food. So we wanted to build an app where people can receive food for free at select donation centers. Our current application connects users to food donation sites so that people can pick up food from the locations shown on a map. We plan on adding more features to our website; for example, allowing restaurants or businesses to sign up to become a donation site or have food donation sites where people can drop off excess food they may have. A challenge we expect to face is, restaurants and businesses being unwilling to donate food at a free cost.
