Inspiration
Students often manage assignments, deadlines, notes, and study plans across several disconnected tools. This makes it difficult to understand what to prioritize, where they are falling behind, and what they should study next. We created good to give students one intelligent workspace that turns academic responsibilities into a clear, personalized action plan.
What it does
good is an AI-powered academic planning platform that helps students organize assignments, generate personalized study schedules, and monitor their progress in one place. Students can add their courses, deadlines, goals, and available study time, and the platform recommends what they should work on next.
The system also identifies potential learning gaps, breaks large assignments into manageable tasks, and adapts recommendations as the student completes work or changes priorities. Instead of simply displaying a to-do list, good acts as an intelligent study companion that helps students make better decisions about their time.
How we built it
We built the application with a modern web-based frontend and an AI-powered backend. The platform collects information about a student’s assignments, deadlines, study goals, and progress, then uses OpenAI models to generate structured study plans and personalized recommendations.
We used Codex throughout the development process to accelerate implementation, debug issues, improve application logic, and iterate on the user experience. The system was designed around structured AI outputs so that generated recommendations could be converted into clear tasks, priorities, and schedules rather than displayed only as free-form text.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges was turning open-ended student information into recommendations that were specific, realistic, and actionable. A study plan may sound helpful while still being impossible to follow if it ignores deadlines, available time, task difficulty, or competing priorities.
We also had to balance automation with user control. Students need intelligent guidance, but they should still be able to adjust priorities, edit generated tasks, and make their own decisions. Another challenge was keeping the platform simple enough to use quickly while still collecting enough information to generate meaningful recommendations.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that good goes beyond a traditional assignment tracker by connecting planning, prioritization, and progress monitoring in one experience. The platform transforms a collection of deadlines and goals into a practical sequence of next steps.
We are also proud of the adaptive planning workflow. As students complete tasks or update their schedules, the system can revise its recommendations instead of forcing them to follow an outdated plan. Most importantly, we created a product that addresses a real and common problem: students often know what they need to accomplish, but they do not always know where to begin.
What we learned
We learned that effective AI products require more than generating intelligent-sounding responses. The output must be structured, contextual, and directly connected to actions that users can take.
We also learned the importance of designing around uncertainty. Students may provide incomplete information, change their goals, or miss planned study sessions, so the system must remain flexible. Building good showed us how AI can support decision-making without removing user autonomy.
What's next for good
Next, we plan to add integrations with learning-management systems and calendars so assignments and deadlines can be imported automatically. We also want to improve progress analytics, provide more detailed explanations for each recommendation, and introduce collaborative features for study groups, tutors, and educators.
In the future, good could support additional learning workflows, including exam preparation, course selection, long-term academic goals, and personalized resource recommendations. Our goal is to make good an intelligent academic companion that helps every student study with greater clarity, consistency, and confidence.
