Inspiration
In 2022, the FBI's internet crime report shows that over 300,000 people were victims of phishing scams. Our goal is to create an easy way for employers to send fake phishing emails, we hope to increase awareness and decrease the number of people who fall for scams like these. Hopefully, having lasting effects even outside the workplace.
What it does
Generates and sends fake phishing emails to employees or other people you're interested in protecting.
How we built it
We used Google Gemini to generate emails, Google Firebase to store the given emails, Google's email API to send the emails, NextJS to program the webapp, and CSS for styling.
Challenges we ran into
- Logic implementing APIs not working as intended in the code.
- Sending Emails using Google's API and getting it to work with other parts of the app.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Successfully generating believable emails using Google Gemini.
- Successfully storing user data in a Firebase Database.
- Successfully reading data from a CSV file and adding it to the database.
What we learned
We learned a lot about using Firebase databases and how to add and remove data, implementing an LLM (Google Gemini) into a webapp, and using Figma DevMode to create webapp styling.

What's next for Gone Phishing
- Implementing a clickable link to check if the recipient of the email falls for the email phish using unique URLs tied to each person that check if they received a connection. This is then updated in the dashboard showing an icon if they fell for the phish.
- Sending emails using the addresses in the database and the generated emails.
