Inspiration
We wanted something that touched all 3 categories of the project, one of the troubles we both had, as a result of injuries was to find things we could still do while being accommodated. It was hard enough as we were recovering temporarily, we realized how difficult it was for people with lifelong or long-term issues.
What it does
The website takes an input from the user that asks what kind of disability they would like to consider, then shows them a list of available attractions, if they choose to visit one, they can click the location arrow on the side which will take them to google maps at that exact address.
How we built it
We used Python and Django, along with HTML/CSS to build the website
Challenges we ran into
Django was unstable and certain GET requests wouldn't operate at times. Along with that much of the code was redundant and wouldn't work properly, leading to many many rewritings.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The UI of the website is quite nice, the functionality is simple but works as intended.
What we learned
We learned a lot about how to receive and process user data and how we can tie that into many other functionalities. This also allowed a "heavy" use for dictionaries that proved beneficial with a large list of locations.
What's next for GoLoco
We plan on adding a better search function, a reload button for multiple pages of results. The next major step is to integrate with a public API which will then have more intuitive results based on GeoLocation and real-world data.
