Inspiration
Keeping score while golfing can be distracting—especially in group games. We wanted a fast, hands-free way to log scores using voice only.
What it does
Players speak their score after each hole, and the app records it using speech recognition. After all 9 holes, it shows a summary.
How we built it
We used vanilla JavaScript, the Web Speech API for speech-to-text, and Firebase Realtime Database to sync scores in real time for multiplayer.
Challenges we ran into
Ensuring accurate voice input in noisy environments Managing async Firebase updates for multiple players Detecting game completion and transitioning to the summary screen
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Fully voice-controlled scoring Smooth solo and group play modes Real-time score sync and UI updates Polished feedback animations and summary display
What we learned
How to handle speech recognition errors and fallbacks Firebase structure for collaborative sessions UX flows for both individual and group gameplay
What's next for golf score speech-to-text
18-hole support Offline mode with sync on reconnect Exportable scorecards and game history tracking
