Inspiration
After my kids got some KPop Demon Hunter trading cards, we wanted a way to track the card collection, and have a better understanding of what was available in the set. We're already used to other TCG games and collection apps, so we figured there was something out there, but turns out there wasn't. I said, "Be right back!"
What it does
Golden TCG is a collector companion app for KAYOU trading cards, who currently manufactures cards for Kpop Demon Hunters, My Little Pony, Naruto, and tokidori. The app allows users to browse every set, mark cards as owned to build up their binder, review card details, and share with others.
How we built it
Golden TCG was built with the help of Codex, both natively for iOS (SwiftUI) and Android (Kotlin)
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was trying to incorporate card value. Unfortunately there aren't any APIs yet for KAYOU cards or large databases with historical value trades for us to tap into, so card value didn't make it into the 1.0 release.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I especially love how users can share cards with others, even those who don't have the app. Our website backend allows users to view the entire KAYOU card collection database.
I'm also proud that users don't have to create an account to use the app and manage their collection.
What we learned
I learned there are a lot of trading card collectors out there, and they are dying for high quality, native collection apps, so I think Golden TCG will be a very welcomed option for many of them!
What's next for Golden TCG
Golden TCG will continue to evolve to be a first-class KAYOU card management system. Expanding beyond collection sorting, exporting and importing, sharing, and browsing, uses can expect an ever-growing catalog of cards as sets are released and become available.
