Inspiration

A team member's best friend's brother has Autism Spectrum Disorder. The team member wanted to use their concepts learned in the classroom to not only help their friend, but to help the community of people with ASD.

What it does

Golden Glove is a product that primarily uses small vibrating constant motors to help regulate the sensory systems of the user back to a normal level. The glove has easy to use functionalities such as an on and off switch for the users to stop the vibration and a potentiometer to control the sensitivity of the vibrations.

How we built it

The glove started out as a circuit diagram using a marker and a white board. Through many attempts of using a microcontroller and having different functionality, we eventually ended up with a fully soldered circuit attached to the wearable glove.

Challenges we ran into

Our group originally intended on using the Particle Photon board but the upload process through the internet was not optimal for our product so we decided a regular microcontroller would work better for us.

Accomplishments that we are proud of

We feel that this can positively impact the community of people living with ASD. It can help them with their day to day lives while minimizing problems. This can also boost the awareness of ASD.

What we learned

We learned that building a circuit on a glove is not as easy as one would originally think. The glove is not flat, and it stretches, and bends and we had to account for that and make it as rugged as possible.

What's next for Golden Glove

We want the glove to have as much functionality as possible. Some of the ideas that our group had were to have a heartbeat monitor that can determine anxiety levels and change the vibration speed depending on that. And of course, the most important was to make the glove customizable and make the owner not feel insecure about wearing it.
