Golden Advisor is a AI advising tool designed to help college advising. It significantly reduces an advisor's load and increases the support for students by creating schedules and answering questions.

Team Formation

Our journey began with a kickoff meeting where we successfully recruited Kenneth to join Batman and I on our team. With everyone on board, we laid out the framework for the type of problems we wanted to solve. We took some time a worked together as a unit to settle on the realm of AI.

Idea Generation

As we brainstormed our ideas ranged vastly from an event parking app to a college connection app. But, during a mentoring session we received constructive feedback that helped us eliminate some of the more far out ideas.. This helpful guidance us led us to select our final idea: an AI advisor to provide 24/7 support for students that needed help with advising and scheduling.

Confirming the Idea

On Friday night we discussed how our product might function. With encouragement and insights from our mentors, we solidified our direction, feeling confident in our vision for Golden Advisor.

Development Stage

That same night we started working, creating the first model of our AI advisor. The next morning we got right into developing the website that would host the virtual advisor. Unfortunately we faced a significant roadblock when trying to connect the API to our locally hosted site. It took us over 3 hours to fix but, with the help of our mentor we overcame this massive hurdle with the help of a different method of implementing the AI assistant through openai.

Final Stages and Future

With our structural model now in place, we then finished feeding the algorithm data and used a wide variety of prompts to help create a skilled set of instructions. Now that our product was finished, we got together and filmed our pitch. In the future, we aim to create a time schedule generator that would allow for students to create a schedule for the upcoming semester. We also need to increase the complexity of our AI responses to provide students with even more valuable insights. A final ambitious idea would be to expand the capabilities of our advisor to help out international students in transferring their institution's credits, making sure that Golden Advisor could cater to a more diverse range of students.

Conclusion

Through teamwork, mentorship, and endless problem-solving we made huge strides towards putting our idea and vision for Golden Advisor into action as a functioning prototype. Our journey has been a long weekend, but we are excited to see what our future brings!
