Inspiration

Scheduling classes in GOLD has always been an annoying process. We felt the need to make it easier for students to choose classes, according to their likes and dislikes.

What we learned?

We learned both technical and non-technical domains over the course of two days; javascript and HTML were languages we haven't used much. Learning the syntaxes and their use in frontend development took up a significant amount of time, but it was a rewarding process. Moreover, we also learned to divide work amongst ourselves and work productively by helping each other.

Challenges we ran into

One challenge we ran into was creating a json file that would include all the professors from UCSB with their corresponding rating from RateMyProfessor. The endeavor took up a large amount of a time for most of the group members and was largely unfruitful. We currently have a proof of concept demonstration of how the rating would be displayed, without accurate rating numbers.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of being able to come up as a group and learn Javascript and HTML from the ground up. We started this project with very little experience, and we're happy with how much we have learned in these past 36 hours.

What's next for Gold Classes Schedule Helper

What's next for Gold Classes Schedule Helper is incorporating the correct ratings from rate my professor. This should not be too difficult given more time. Some stretch goals that might come next include adding functionality for the extension to add classes for you when your pass time rolls around as well as additional course information when you hover over the class (like wikipedia).
