Inspiration

Nearly 19.8% of the Sacramento population lives in poverty. For these individuals, they already have enough on their plate when it comes to bills, food, and shelter. Why do they have to shoulder the burden of finding proper resources all by themselves? This is where Gold Guide can help.

What it does

Gold Guide is an efficient way of connected impoverished residents of Sacramento with affordable resources such as healthcare, education, rehabilitation, and much more.

How we built it

We knew that everyone's circumstances are not the same, so we spent most of or time designing a user interface that could customize our website to the user's specific needs. We utilized React.js to create a clean and beautiful user interface.

Challenges we ran into

At first, we wanted to implement a backend that could query a list of resources in the Sacramento area so that we could easily use them to populate our map. But the issue we ran into was that we couldn't find a dataset or API that gave us specific information about Sacramento's low cost resources.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were proud that we successfully implemented a prototype of a service that could have some major impact on people's lives within Sacramento.

What we learned

It was amazing to learn about all of the different services that Sacramento has to offer for people living in poverty. This is awesome because it let us know that there are people out there trying to help increase the quality of life for those struggling in Sacramento.
