Inspiration

We wanted to do one of the challenges but because of our inexperience we went with the domain of .space to give us an idea that we could run with, and going2.space was a great inspiration.

What it does

This is a endless arcade game that includes an astronaut jumping from rocketship to rocketship, all while avoiding meteors and conserving fuel to be able to dodge more efficiently. Once your health runs out, its game over!

How I built it

We used Javascript and some HTML to make sure that this game could run entirely on the domain that we got at the beginning of the hackathon. We used Imgur to hold all of the visual assets and github to have a link for the song.

Challenges I ran into

We tried originally to create the game using a specialized version of Javascript called melonJS that would help making the game easier, but it ended up being more confusing so we had to scrap the code and just code the game manually.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We're very proud of our final product, because it genuinely is a lot of fun for us to play, and we did learn a lot about Javascript and hosting services as well.

What I learned

We learned to be ok with restarting if in the end we can get a better product, and then obviously we learned a good amount about Javascript and hosting services.

What's next for Going 2 Space

We will have this up for an entire year, and depending on reactions from our peers, we could enhance the game visually and maybe even optimize it for mobile devices as well.
