Inspiration

Our inspiration stemmed from multiple issues, including COVID-19 and the frustrations of figuring out who's going to events when everyone is waiting for others to RSVP.

What it does

GoFor It is an application which allows users to conditionally RSVP. Examples include when a user can only go if the driver of their carpool goes, if the event stays within a certain number of attendees to mitigate COVID-19 risk, or if the event is above a certain number of people when doing activities that require a minimum number of players.

How I built it

We began to build this application using Flutter, Dart, Android Studio, and Firebase.

Challenges I ran into

We ran into difficulties setting up the Firebase application with the Flutter app, but hope to continue working on it to get it set up. Considering we all have either no or relatively little hacking experience, it was difficult to determine how to start, and how to even determine what technologies we could use. Fortunately, some mentors were able to help us pick what softwares we used for the application. Although the process was intimidating, we're glad we were able to make at least some product to show.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Despite not getting a fully functioning, ready to use application, we got more done than we expected. We kept working throughout the hackathon, even though we ran into numerous bugs and difficulties.

What I learned

We managed to learn about mobile development, databases, and dart. We also attended a number of sessions, both on technical skills and soft skills which increased our confidence and excitement about coding and computer science.

What's next for GoFor It

In the future, we plan to continue development. Using the wireframes we created for the concept, we plan to integrate the databases and create a user interface for the application on flutter. After that, we plan to get user feedback and make changes to the application that we think would improve the user experience.
