Inspiration

As a fan of cozy content and idle games, I wanted to combine them and create a game that's not only therapeutic to play but also has satisfying incremental gameplay. Physics based simulations and fantasy worlds have always been an interest of mine as well. Combining all these ingredients led to Goblin Gardens: live as a Gob trying to make the best crystal garden in New Gobtown.

What it does

Goblin Gardens is a game where players will scrounge around different locations looking for Shinies: coins, gems and other objects that they can trade with other Gobs.

Gems are unique in that they can grow. By putting gems in a Grow Zone, players can wait for them to grow before selling them to other Gobs, earning more of a profit.

Or if they want, they can just store the crystals and decorate the garden. The main vision for Goblin Gardens is to be a goblin-themed Animal Crossing, and is the first game in the Dwarves vs. Goblins universe.

How we built it

Built on Kiro + Claude Code, using Devvit's Three.js starter with react-three-fiber and rapier.js for physics

Challenges we ran into

Physics is always a challenge to build due to non-deterministic bugs! Also making the scrounging mechanic feel nice

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I built this in less than two weeks for the challenge! Looking forward to being able to polish it and release given a bit more time

What we learned

Devvit as a platform is pretty fun to build on! The app runs the same as when we're building it, and the upload process is cleaner than other platforms once you get used to it.

What's next for Goblin Gardens

There are multiple features I'd like to further implement:

Garden Customization - Players can buy shinies and other artifacts and move them around their garden, also allowing other players to visit their garden

Crystal Growing with Procedural Meshes - This can be another therapeutic feature, where players can see how crystals grow with beautiful procedural graphics

Dwarven Techniques - When players reach Fire Fields, they will unlock new features that allow them to make alloys and mix gem colors

If Goblin Gardens is a project anyone is interested in to support please feel free to reach out!
