Inspiration
We wanted to make a bizarre party game with a lot of character. We had the interest in centering it around goblins and medieval fantasy, with some inspiration from DnD dice rolling mechanics. Overall, we thought a two-player party game that involved IRL and on-screen challenges would best help facilitate connection between players and with the game itself.
What it does
Players connect through sharing one controller, rolling the die with their respective buttons, and beating their opponent in special challenges. When you roll a number 6 on the die, you must compete for your point in an IRL challenge and when die match you must compete with your opponent in an on-screen mini-game.
How we built it
Built using Godot and written in GDscript. Sprites created in Aseprite. Sounds and music created using Audacity.
Challenges we ran into
Merging conflicts when working on the project simultaneously. Typical debugging during development.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were very pleased with how the art style turned out, the sprites, UI, lighting, and asset direction all hit the mark for our overall goals for the project. Our skills were often right on the mark, there weren’t many major logic conflicts, barring a few merge conflicts here and there. Our sound effects were fitting and the overall menu design matched the theme of the project well.
What we learned
We improved our collaboration skills individually and as a team. We learned more about programming in GDscript, about Godot’s lighting engine, and organizing projects with GitHub.
What's next for Goblin Dice
There’s always the potential to continue working on this project further or collaborating together again to create a new project in the future!
