Inspiration
Safety is a concern for many people, especially when traveling alone or visiting unfamiliar places. We wanted to create a solution that helps people make informed decisions before they go somewhere. Our inspiration came from the idea that communities can work together by sharing real-time information to make neighborhoods safer for everyone.
What it does
GoAware is a community-powered safety app that allows users to view the safety level of different locations through an interactive map with green, yellow, and red zones. Users can report crimes, or suspicious activities with one tap, receive real-time alerts, and check safety information before traveling. By combining community reports with location-based insights, GoAware helps users avoid risky areas and travel with confidence.
How we built it
We designed GoAware using Figma for the UI/UX prototype, focusing on a clean, intuitive, and user-friendly interface. The app features interactive maps, a reporting system, safety zone indicators, notifications, and a community-driven dashboard to provide an engaging user experience.
Challenges we ran into
One of our biggest challenges was designing a system that presents safety information in a simple, easy-to-understand way while avoiding information overload. We also had to think about how community reports could be organized effectively and how to encourage trustworthy user contributions.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of creating a modern and accessible design that combines safety mapping, real-time reporting, and community participation into one application.
What we learned
This project taught us the importance of user-centered design, clear information visualization, and how technology can strengthen community awareness. We also improved our UI/UX design, problem-solving, teamwork, and product planning skills.
What's next for GoAware
Our next goal is to develop GoAware into a fully functional mobile application. Future features include AI-powered risk prediction, safer route recommendations, offline safety alerts, and partnerships with local authorities to improve the accuracy and reliability of safety information.
